Our DNA – Sustainability
Driven by conviction and passion, we set ourselves the goal back in 2009 of creating ecologically valuable, sustainable and animal-friendly furniture and products for cats – made from corrugated cardboard.
Today, sustainability is a global priority, and for good reason: it’s about securing the future of our planet and generations to come. That’s why we weren’t surprised to discover how closely our company philosophy has aligned with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations – right from the start.
Even then, our focus was intuitively placed on sustainable consumption and circular economy production patterns. Discover which of the United Nations’ goals we’ve already been meeting since the founding of cat-on:
Health and Well-being
We place great emphasis on providing our employees with a varied and healthy workplace in a pleasant environment. Furthermore, we ensure absolute purity in our products, as they come into direct contact with both cats and their owners.
Equality
Through fair pay and measures that support a healthy work–life balance, we actively promote gender equality within our company. At cat-on, women currently make up nearly 70% of our workforce.
Clean Water
We do not generate any wastewater in the production of our cat furniture.
Renewable Energy
We use exclusively renewable energies, primarily sourced from hydropower, wind and solar energy. In the medium term, we also plan to expand with photovoltaic systems. In addition, our production facilities are heated entirely with the warm exhaust air from our machines.
Occupational safety
We place particular importance on providing safe, diverse and future-oriented workplaces. As a manufacturer, we carry great responsibility towards our employees and continuously review working conditions to prevent workplace accidents. With great success: in the entire history of cat-on, there has never been a single accident.
Innovation
Our business model is based on aligning our production methods and customer needs with sustainable raw materials. We continuously optimize innovative manufacturing processes to move towards a sustainable future with high energy and material efficiency. The ongoing digitalization of our workflows further streamlines our operations and makes them more efficient. These measures help us continuously reduce energy and resource consumption while minimizing waste production.
Reduced Inequalities
In our family-owned company, preventing unequal treatment plays a fundamental role. We actively promote diversity, inclusion and integration, while ensuring equal pay and fair business practices throughout our supply chain.
Circular Recycling
With our sustainable and durable products, we help reduce waste in densely populated areas. This is achieved not only through the high quality and long lifespan of our products, but also by largely avoiding plastic packaging in our shipping process.
Sustainable Production
Sustainability is deeply rooted in our DNA. With our products manufactured in Germany and sourced regionally, we aim to inspire you as a consumer to recognize your personal impact on global supply chains and to choose regional, ecological and fair-trade products.
Our products and packaging can be easily separated for waste disposal after use, allowing you to contribute effortlessly to recycling and help close the loop.
Climate Protection
Climate change is one of the most important issues of our time. In addition to using FSC-certified papers from sustainably managed forestry, we also offer our customers the opportunity to actively participate in reforesting rainforests in Indonesia together with our partner Yook – a tangible contribution to climate protection.
Preserving Ecosystems
Biological diversity and healthy ecosystems are the foundations of our lives. For this reason, we support reforestation projects in Borneo to contribute to ending deforestation. Through the use of our high-quality papers, we also promote the sustainable management of forests.
